We sincerely thank you for your interest in publishing with the Journal of Language Teaching and Learning (JLTL). As an international, peer-reviewed, and open-access academic journal, JLTL is committed to providing a reputable platform for the dissemination of high-quality research, theoretical inquiry, and practical innovations in the fields of foreign language education, applied linguistics, TESOL, and language teacher education.
JLTL welcomes submissions from scholars across the globe and values contributions that reflect a diversity of contexts, methodologies, and perspectives. We particularly encourage submissions that promote scholarly inclusivity, engage with underrepresented regions or populations, or offer novel insights into the complex realities of language teaching and learning.
Scope and Types of Submissions
We accept original empirical research articles, theoretical papers, literature reviews, innovations-in-practice reports, and book reviews. Submissions should address key themes in second or foreign language acquisition, pedagogy, teacher education, curriculum design, assessment, sociolinguistics, and related interdisciplinary areas. Manuscripts should be of scholarly quality, well-structured, and grounded in the relevant academic literature.
Editorial and Review Process
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening for relevance, scope, and academic rigor. Suitable manuscripts are then subjected to a double-blind peer review process by at least two expert referees. Authors will receive detailed feedback and one of the following decisions: acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Our editorial board is comprised of distinguished scholars who uphold international standards of academic excellence and ethical review practices in line with COPE guidelines.
Open Access and No Fees Policy
JLTL is fully open-access and does not charge any submission, publication, article processing, or translation fees. Moreover, subscription and readership are entirely free. This reflects our philosophy that academic knowledge should be accessible to all, regardless of institutional affiliation or financial resources.
Formatting and Ethical Requirements
Authors must follow the APA 7th edition style for formatting, citations, and references. Manuscripts that do not comply with this format cannot proceed to peer review. We expect authors to ensure linguistic accuracy; proofreading by a competent academic editor is strongly recommended for non-native English speakers.
Authors are also required to:
-
Disclose any use of generative AI tools, clearly indicating the extent and nature of such use.
-
Provide a statement of ethical approval where human participants are involved.
-
Clearly declare competing interests, if any.
-
Include a Copyright and Licensing Agreement, retaining rights under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).
Commitment to Diversity and Representation
JLTL aims to represent a rich tapestry of global scholarship. We especially welcome submissions that foreground perspectives from the Global South, marginalized communities, minority languages, or educational settings underrepresented in mainstream literature.
We believe that strong scholarship stems not only from rigorous methods, but also from the authenticity and diversity of voices and experiences.
Get Involved
Beyond submitting your work, we invite you to engage with JLTL as a reader, reviewer, or guest editor. You may also share published articles via your institutional repository or personal website, provided you acknowledge their publication in JLTL.
Thank you for considering JLTL as a venue for your work. We look forward to reading your contributions and supporting your research journey in language education and applied linguistics.
